Rose wants job creation, bill paying discussed at veto session
The veto session is underway in Springfield, and lawmakers have their hands full with the number of different bills and legislation on their plate.
Gambling expansion, pension reform, and pay for regional school superintendents are just a few of the issues the legislature could be addressing during the session.
Republican State Representative Chapin Rose of Mahomet says the priority needs to be on creating jobs and finding a way to pay down the backlog of bills.
- Chapin Rose talks about the veto session.
Rose says Governor Pat Quinn's decision to remove slot machines at race tracks from the gambling expansion bill, which includes a casino in Danville, could end up killing the bill.
He says it appears there is some support in Springfield for paying regional superintendents of education out of the corporate personal property replacement tax.
However, Rose says he is in favor of overriding Quinn's veto and just reinstating the superintendents' salaries.
The veto session consists of six days, three days this week and three more days the second week of November.
