Danville City Council approves deal to aid woodworking firm
DANVILLE — Danville aldermen approved Tuesday night a redevelopment agreement between the city and a local business that would receive up to $450,000 in city funds to relocate from Fairchild Street to a new building on Oak Street near downtown.
The proposed agreement is between the city and T.h. Snyder, a woodworking firm at 640 E. Fairchild St., Danville. The money will come from the city's Midtown tax increment financing district fund and help T.h. Snyder purchase the building on Oak Street.
The city council also approved changing the language of its liquor ordinance, which would allow the Satellite Bar to have a liquor license and reopen. The newly renovated Satellite Bar at 2001 E. Main St. had not been able to get a liquor license because a city ordinance prohibits liquor establishments within 100 feet of hospital property. The bar is across the street from the Veterans Affairs hospital at 1900 E. Main St.
The current ordinance prohibits any liquor establishment within 100 feet of the property line of various entities, including schools, day care facilities and hospitals.
Although the Satellite is directly across from the Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System campus at 1900 E. Main St., it's actually hundreds of yards from the actual hospital, which sits in the midst of a sprawling campus.
City administration recommended changing the ordinance from 100 feet between property lines to 100 feet between structures, which would allow the bar to get a license, and aldermen approved the change Tuesday night.
