Illinois Supreme Court justice to address incoming students

CHAMPAIGN — Illinois Supreme Court Justice Rita B. Garman will be speaking to incoming University of Illinois College of Law students next week as part of their law school orientation. Garman is scheduled to present a talk on professionalism, ethics, civility and diversity at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the school, located at 504 E. Pennsylvania Ave., C.

"We are all invested in the students developing into positive professional lawyers," Garman said in a written release. "The future of our profession depends on professionalism as the touchstone of behavior both while students are in law school and later, as members of our legal community."

In addition to the talk, Garman will administer the "Pledge of Professionalism" in which the students commit themselves to upholding the highest ideals and standards of the legal profession.
