Children's Advocacy Center joins outcry against cuts
CHAMPAIGN – When a child witnesses a crime – or worse, becomes a victim – the last thing he wants to do is talk to an intimidating police officer in a sterile police station.
The child-friendly environment at the Champaign County Children's Advocacy Center is the polar opposite, with a playhouse, books, toys and a giant stuffed ostrich. Since 2001, the center has provided a safe, nonthreatening place for investigators to talk to hundreds of children who have been abused or witnessed a crime.
