Vermilion animal shelter director suspended
DANVILLE – The director of the Vermilion County Animal Shelter has been suspended indefinitely with pay, according to Vermilion County Board Chairman Jim McMahon.
McMahon declined to comment on the circumstances surrounding the suspension of director Pete Smith, stating that it's a confidential personnel matter.
McMahon said the situation has nothing to do with the care of animals at the shelter and things continue to run smoothly there.
He said it's a personnel matter involving Smith and no information is being turned over to the Vermilion County state's attorney's office for consideration of action.
McMahon said he has hired the previous shelter director, Shane Boyer, on a contractual basis to "look into" the personnel situation at the shelter, but added that Boyer will not be acting as interim director.
Smith succeeded Boyer last year as shelter director when Boyer left to serve in the military.
