UI-developed map system tracks West Nile virus

University of Illinois Professor Marilyn Ruiz and Geographic Information System specialist Tom McTighe show a computer monitor displaying maps created to track the spread of the West Nile virus in Illinois.

Look at the places in Illinois where birds turned up with West Nile virus in 2001 and you have almost an exact duplicate of the places where people - more of them than anywhere else in the nation - were infected in 2002.
