Duane Edwards, owner of CU Taxi and Illini Limo in Champaign, sits in one of his vehicles outside the Illinois terminal in downtown Champaign last week. Edwards said he supports a proposed strengthening of Champaign and Urbana's vehicle-for-hire ordinances.

CHAMPAIGN – Many businessmen abhor additional governmental regulation. But Duane Edwards, owner of CU Taxi and Illini Limo in Champaign, said a proposed strengthening of Champaign and Urbana's vehicle-for-hire ordinances is welcome news to him.

"A lot of taxi drivers get out here and get started with a car that shouldn't be on the road, and they're riding the public around in them," said Edwards. "I think the cities of Champaign and Urbana decided they really need to do something about it. I'm pretty much behind it."
