'It was a marvelous career'

Dale Ewen, shown recently on the Champaign campus of Parkland College, will retire as executive vice president in June, ending 35 years as an educator and administrator at Parkland.

CHAMPAIGN – Dale Ewen knows some students come to Parkland College overwhelmed and intimidated.

"We hear about students who come as far as the parking lot, but don't have the courage to come in," said Ewen, Parkland's retiring executive vice president. "Many are returning students who put their education on hold for a lot of different reasons and may be working in dead-end jobs.
