CHAMPAIGN – Throngs of college students meandering indifferently into the streets of Campustown would suggest otherwise, but a national report released today ranks Champaign-Urbana as the second-safest metropolitan area in the state for pedestrian safety.
Champaign-Urbana came in second to Bloomington-Normal in the latest analysis, titled "Mean Streets 2004," by the Surface Transportation Policy Project. Champaign-Urbana was first in a previous report analyzing pedestrian safety for 1994-95.
