CHAMPAIGN – School board and administration members ironed out differences during the long weekend preceding their Tuesday meeting, added $2 million to the cost, and unanimously approved a building referendum to go to voters in March.

The price tag for the plans to renovate Champaign schools and build three new ones has gone up from the $64 million proposal on the table last week to the $66 million plan approved. The new plan includes money to install air conditioning in elementary schools during sweeping renovations that also include security and safety upgrades. It also includes another action that caused some controversy last week, spending $1 million on a future high school site.
