In his State of the State Address on Wednesday, Gov. Rod Blagojevich vilified the Republican administration in Washington, while calling on state lawmakers to ban assault weapons, authorize a major new construction program, offer tax breaks for fuel-efficient car buyers and parents of college students, provide health insurance to veterans and create new meth treatment centers in two state prisons.
He also hinted at major new education initiatives coming next month, and touted his accomplishments from the past three years, while avoiding any mention of ethics or his controversial plan to offer keno in bars and restaurants.
