University of Illinois kinesiology Professor Edward McAuley displays the equipment used in a physiological testing area at his Freer Hall laboratory. McAuley and colleagues joined in researching the effects of exercise on senior citizens, and the results were encouraging: More acitivity appears to help fight the aging process both physically and mentally.
Physical activity not only tends to make senior citizens more fit, but also might improve their quality of life, and on a long-term basis, University of Illinois researchers are finding.
"Their overall satisfaction with their lives appears to be greater if they're more physically active," UI kinesiology professor Edward McAuley said recently.
