Rebuilding a home — and a life

The outside of Giraldo Rosales' house at 618 W. Hill St., in Champaign, remains beautiful. The inside, however, is being gutted after water pipes froze and flooded the house. The family has had to live in Urbana.

CHAMPAIGN – Giraldo Rosales admits it's unusual that he, a member of the Champaign City Council, has lived in Urbana since February 2005.

But the tragedy that he and his family have had to endure – seeing their beloved 6,000-square-foot home at 618 W. Hill St. nearly destroyed when water pipes froze and burst while they were on vacation – is a bit unusual, too.
