Provena Covenant Medical Center has opted to fight a Department of Revenue decision to strip it of tax-exempt status.
After an unfavorable Illinois Department of Revenue ruling on Friday, Provena Covenant Medical Center vowed to take its tax status battle to the courts.
The state's decision challenges Covenant's ability to continue serving the poor and uninsured, and carries similar implications for every hospital across the state, said Provena Health President and CEO William T. Foley, who called the decision "completely outrageous."
