Man falls asleep, hits police squad car

OAKWOOD – An Illinois State Police trooper and a Rockford man were taken to the hospital after an early morning Thanksgiving accident on Interstate 74 near Oakwood.
Trooper Monica Strandberg was parked on the shoulder of the median off the westbound lanes of I-74, assisting a motorist in the ditch, when her squad car was struck by a sport utility vehicle driven by Phillip C. Doup, 23, of Rockford.
