Rantoul banker says Wal-Mart key to expansion

RANTOUL – With a new Wal-Mart Supercenter under construction and the future of the community's largest employer uncertain, an area banker says Rantoul's economy is at a crossroads.

Ed Scharlau, vice chairman of the First Busey Corporation, was expected to tell a group of community leaders today that the new Wal-Mart near the Interstate 57 interchange will likely bring about the largest retail expansion in the community's history.
