Urban League intends to resolve issues with state

CHAMPAIGN – With nearly 60 percent of its revenue gone, 10 staff positions eliminated and about 6,000 people on its to-contact list, the Urban League of Champaign County faces "significant challenges" following the state's recent decision to terminate multimillion-dollar contracts with the organization, according to the league's board chair.
The Champaign organization learned on Friday the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services had terminated its contracts with the nonprofit. The Urban League managed two programs for the state to help low-income residents pay utility bills (called LIHEAP) and another which helps pay for certain improvements to homes (called the Weatherization Program).
