UI prof builds meditation hut for his wife in backyard

University of Illinois Associate Professor Jeffery Poss sits inside the meditation hut he built for his wife in their Pennsylvania Avenue backyard in Urbana.
URBANA – University of Illinois architecture Professor Jeffery Poss did all sorts of studies and plans for a second meditation hut for his wife. He eventually eliminated all of them and just started construction from scratch.
"I had an idea. I knew I wanted a three-tatami hut," he remembered. "I thought I'd better get started and just figure it out as I went along. It was a different approach to architecture than, say, what we teach in architecture school."
