Provena loses power after truck knocks down pole

Firefighters stand by as they wait for the power company after a truck for National Power Rodding Corp snapped a power pole on Wright Street between Columbia and Vine on Thursday morning. The downed pole caused power outages in the area, including Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.

A truck for National Power Rodding Corp. caused a power pole on North Wright Street between Columbia and Vine streets on the boundary between Champaign and Urbana to snap off at the base Thursday morning.

There were power outages in the area including Provena Covenant Medical Center. The outage affected all of Provena, but the hospital's emergency generators kicked in to keep the medical equipment running and lights on, hospital spokeswoman Kimberly Garrison-Clanton said.
