New officers more prepared than ever for rigors of street

Urbana police Officer David Roesch says goodbye to his children, Griffin, 3, right, and Addison, 1, and hands them off to wife Julie as she gets off work as a probation officer and he starts a night shift at the Urbana Police Department.

A few weeks into his field training, Champaign police Officer Andre Davis stopped a car on Interstate 72.

The car's occupants were suspected of methamphetamine violations. Davis got consent to search the car and found two boxes of pseudoephedrine-based cold tablets, a key ingredient in making illegal meth.
