URBANA – Declaring that no student should have to worry about his or her safety at school, a Champaign County judge Thursday sentenced two different youths who had brought weapons to J.W. Eater Junior High School in Rantoul on separate occasions.
"It's absolutely unacceptable to carry a weapon to school. Schools are for learning. They are not combat zones," Judge Heidi Ladd told a 14-year-old girl who had pleaded guilty in juvenile court to reckless conduct for bringing a razor blade to the school on Dec. 18.
