SPRINGFIELD – On a record-breaking 70th day in overtime, the Illinois House and Senate overwhelmingly approved a new state spending plan on Thursday. What happens next is still unclear.
The House approved the proposed operating budget on a 99-9 vote late Thursday morning. Just after midnight, the Senate approved a nearly identical budget bill on a vote of 52-5, sending it back to the House for a final vote today.
