Cities preparing to intervene in water rate case

CHAMPAIGN – The city council approved a preliminary step Tuesday toward intervening in Illinois American Water's request for a nearly 60 percent rate increase.

Council members voted unanimously to spend up to $66,000 with Clark Dietz Inc. of Champaign to provide professional services to intervene in the water company's Aug. 31 request to the Illinois Commerce Commission for a rate increase in the company's Champaign district.
