CHAMPAIGN – Sales tax income is coming in lower than projected, and the city's finance director is asking the city council to consider some minor changes in budget direction.
Richard Schnuer, Champaign's finance director, said the city's budget for the fiscal year that ends June 30 projects a 3.75 percent increase in sales tax income compared with last fiscal year. But, with five months of sales tax receipts in hand, it appears the rate of sales tax growth will be between 2 and 2.5 percent, he said.
