Public smoking ban leads parade starting today

SPRINGFIELD – More than 200 new laws take effect today, ranging from a statewide smoking ban to a crackdown on scrap metal theft and tougher restrictions on carnival operators.
The one that has garnered the most attention is SB 500, making Illinois the 22nd state to ban smoking in public places.
