UI researchers investigate invasion of the ants

The Argentine ant, not much more than a couple of pinheads in size, isn't a very impressive physical specimen even in the ant world, but don't take it as the insect equivalent of a 98-pound weakling who gets shoved around on the beach.

The tiny South American ant is the one doing the shoving in California, shoving out larger native species – or rather, eating them and their food sources – potentially altering the area's ecosystem in big ways despite its small stature.
