Towns seek remedies to abandoned buildings

Rossville Mayor Terry Prillaman stands in front of two abandoned buildings on East Attica Street in downtown Rossville. The village acquired the property after the lender foreclosed on the owner.

Business owner Kathy Galyen worries that the Homer Beach building, a vacant two-story brick building, could collapse and damage her business – or worse, injure someone.

"A few of the top bricks have fallen onto my roof," said Galyen, who owns Galyen's Trading Post at 131 S. Main St., Homer, next door to the Homer Beach building. "If the rest gives way, it would cause damage."
