WESTVILLE – Erosion along a drainage ditch and a brief, localized sewer backup in February are being investigated by the Corps of Engineers and the Illinois attorney general's office, Mayor Jeff Slavik said Tuesday.
Inspectors from the Corps of Engineers were in Westville last week following a complaint about erosion in a drainage ditch that runs on the north side of Moses Avenue, north of Zamberletti Park, Slavik said. At issue is a cleaning and deepening of the ditch that village officials authorized in 2002, apparently without receiving a permit to do so from the Corps of Engineers, he said.
