Safeguards lacking – and not required – at downtown sites

DANVILLE – Though a majority of the buildings in the downtown area are in good condition, many do not contain working smoke detectors, smoke alarms or sprinkler systems, said City Code Enforcement Manager Rodney Buckham.

And under city code, most existing downtown businesses are not required to, he said.
