Students churn out toys to raise money for books

Art Team member Dreshianna Bishop looks at finished tops. Martin Beberman's 3rd graders at Dr. Howard school in Champaign have formed a factory to make tops, using math,science and art. They are going to sell the tops to make money for the library.

CHAMPAIGN – The factory opened at about 8:15 Thursday morning, and the employees were soon hard at work.

Some of them sanded round wooden discs, and some cut dowel rods into pieces. Others assembled the pieces into tops.
