Man convicted in shooting case

URBANA – Markele Powell told a Champaign County jury this week that he shot his girlfriend in the chest last fall while angry, but that he had no intention of killing her.
The jury rejected his defense and convicted him after about 90 minutes of deliberation Thursday. He faces 31 years to natural life in prison when sentenced May 19 by Judge Heidi Ladd.
