URBANA – A 26-year-old former Champaign man faces the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty Monday to a federal drug conspiracy charge.
Olaitan Fowowe, who had lived in Champaign while attending the University of Illinois in 1999, admitted he was the head of the conspiracy from early 2003 to late 2007. Fowowe, who goes by the street name "Melvin," also admitted he ran the drug conspiracy while he was on work release on a previous state charge of selling drugs.
