City of Urbana civil engineer Jennifer Selby sits in an office at Busey Bank with a view of Main Street in the background on Thursday April 17, 2008. The city is seeking a $1 million grant to improve Main Street for two miles. The street would be resufaced, bicycle lanes possibly added and four-lane areas shrunk to three lanes, with a middle turn lane. Need a shot of Main Street.

URBANA – Main Street could be transformed into the linchpin of the city's bicycle network if Urbana is successful in landing a $1 million state grant.

The city is hoping to undertake a $2.3 million update, two years from now, of a 2-mile stretch of Main Street, from Cedar Street, just west of downtown, to Scottswood Drive on the east.
