Urbana increasing social services budget; Champaign reducing

Crisis Nursery Executive Director Ginny Dewar says her agency must 'piece together our budget' each year. The nursery, which got $16,500 from Urbana and $18,000 from Champaign this fiscal year, will have to reconfigure its budget starting in 2009, when Champaign drops its social services spending.

URBANA – When it comes to funding social service agencies that help the needy, Urbana continues to outpace its bigger neighbor, Champaign.

This coming fiscal year, Urbana expects to allocate $300,000 toward social service grants. That's an increase of $12,000 compared with the current fiscal year, which ends June 30.
