As motor fuel prices rise, so does the number of drive-offs

Once a minor annoyance to local police, reports of gasoline theft from retailers is taking on new meaning with gas at $4 a gallon.

For police, it means looking harder for scofflaws, and for some retailers it has meant forcing customers who don't want to use credit or debit cards to pay before they pump.
