Program helps freshmen keep pace with their peers

DANVILLE – When Byron Beard took world history, the Danville High School freshman found himself distracted by his classmates, other classes and additional things going on at school and in his life. He fell behind and never caught up.
But this summer, Beard is getting a second chance to pass the class and recover the credit in a new alternative-education summer-school program. He said being in the nontraditional classroom – with fewer students and distractions – has made a world of difference.
