CHAMPAIGN – It probably wasn't the ideal time to try to raise $3 million for charity, with rising fuel and food prices putting a squeeze on the average family.
But local folks opened up their hearts and their wallets and came through nicely for the United Way of Champaign County. For the first time ever, the organization has exceeded its $3 million fundraising goal, its Chief Executive Lyn Jones said.
