Flight in B-17 offers glimpse into America's wartime past

The bombardier's seat in a B-17 provides a bird's-eye view of the vicinity – in this case, the Champaign-Urbana area.

SAVOY – A flight in a B-17 plane called "Aluminum Overcast" provided a glimpse of what it was like for a World War II bomber crew.

It was cramped and noisy, but it was also a briefer and warmer flight than crew members would have experienced.
