A collection of photos, medals and papers documenting 91-year-old Wayne Redman's experiences as a B-17 pilot in World War II are on display at his house in Bement. Redman, who flew 50 missions during the war, was supposed to fly on the B-17 that came to Willard Airport, but fell the day before and injured himself.

His friend Larry Bertram told him about the B-17 warplane coming to Willard Airport in Savoy. Redman knew all about B-17s. During World War II, he'd flown 50 missions in them, piloting the shiny silver plane over parts of the United States and Europe.
