Champaign Guardsman part of unit sent to aid in Gustav relief

CHAMPAIGN – A Champaign man is one of eight Illinois National Guardsmen who flew out of Decatur on Sunday morning on their way to Louisiana to help with relief efforts for people affected by Hurricane Gustav.

Illinois Army National Guard Chief Warrant Officer Damien Germsheid of Champaign piloted one of two UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters from the Illinois National Guard's aviation facility in Decatur to Esler Airfield in Louisiana, according to National Guard spokesman Maj. Brad Leighton.
