Members of the Favila family, from left, mom Lucy, dad Ivan, and daughter Lali watch the halftime show Saturday at the Illinois-Eastern Illinois game from the west balcony of Memorial Stadium.

The plywood walls inside the elevator in Memorial Stadium's Great West Hall sported a countdown to this season's first home game day scribbled above the sliding door – the final number crossed out with an "X".

Someone had written "Git her done" on an adjacent wall – a scrawled reminder of the $120.9 million renovation project.

As the elevator moved between floors Saturday – hauling boxed lunches, beef tips, and fans – dozens of visitors roamed the new hallways of the west side, soaking in the sights.
