Champaign, Urbana and Danville public works officials say they aren't yet planning any cutbacks in the use of road salt this winter, despite the fact that the price of salt has soared 47 percent this year.
Officials from all three cities said the cost of salt purchased through the Illinois Department of Central Management Services has risen from $44.56 per ton last year to $64.58 per ton this year.
