CHAMPAIGN – In what promises to be a major headache for local drivers, Springfield Avenue will be closed in Champaign between First and Fourth streets for most of October, starting Wednesday.
The closure is expected to last until Oct. 29 and could run longer if weather does not cooperate. The closure will allow a city contractor to install a new storm sewer culvert across Springfield Avenue, part of the Second Street Boneyard Detention Basin project now under way. Access will be maintained to driveways within the closed area.
