Two students at the University of Illinois recently reported separate but similar scams on the Internet.

On Sept. 25, a 20-year-old male student posted an ad on the Craigslist Web site offering to babysit. He got a reply from a person who said he was a man from North Granby, Conn., and sent the victim a check for $5,150, according to a University of Illinois police report.
