SIDNEY – The low drone of heavy harvest equipment can be heard throughout Central Illinois this time of year. A couple of generations ago, hundreds of workers were needed to carry out the harvest. And in those days, that included children.
Nowadays, most children never encounter real-life farming. But on Tuesday, 100 students from St. Joseph Elementary school got a first-hand look at modern corn farming, harvesting and processing.
