Electrical problem blamed in shed fire near Fairmount

Firefighters put water on the remains of a chemical storage building at C&R Ag Supply in Fairmount on Thursday. Fire crews from Homer, Sidney, Ogden, St. Joseph, Fithian, Fairmount, Allerton, Philo and Royal responded to the blaze. The building stored Nutri-Pel, a non-hazardous fertilizer.

FAIRMOUNT – An electrical fire caused an estimated $145,000 damage at a fertilizer storage shed Thursday morning.

Nine agencies went to the C&R Ag plant west of Fairmount at 9:25 a.m. Thursday, according to Homer Fire Chief Don Happ. Sidney, Ogden, St. Joseph, Fithian, Allerton, Philo and Royal firefighters and Pro Ambulance also responded in addition to the Homer Fire Protection District, he said.
