Pooch drops by to help students cope with loss

Antonio Perkins, 8, pets Neo, a black Labrador, as the dog visits with students Thursday at Garden Hills Elementary School in Champaign. He was there to help the children as they deal with the death of third-grade teacher Venita Hubbard, who was killed in a car accident on her way to school Monday morning.

CHAMPAIGN – A four-legged friend brightened up a tough week for some children at Garden Hills Elementary School on Thursday.

Neo, a black Labrador, visited the third-grade classrooms at the school. He was there to help the children as they deal with losing third-grade teacher Venita Hubbard. She was killed in a car accident on her way to school Monday morning.
