10 area educators become nationally board certified

Bottenfield Elementary School music teacher Amber Owens introduces her class to a new unit on guitars Wednesday at the school in Champaign. Owens recently became a Nationally Board Certified Teacher along with seven other educators in Champaign-Urbana.

While Champaign and Urbana students were doing homework this year, odds are good several of their teachers were doing homework of their own.

In the twin cities, eight teachers recently became Nationally Board Certified Teachers, putting them with an exclusive group that only 2 percent of U.S. teachers achieve.
