Ceigan Westfield, center, a third-grader at King Elementary School in Urbana, looks up while answering a question from Christopher Fuller during the 'Technology for Kids' pilot program Monday at the school. Fuller taught the students in the after-school program about word processors, Microsoft's PowerPoint and Excel software, spreadsheets, podcasts and more.

URBANA – Ceigan Westfield created a checkbook in Microsoft's Excel program Tuesday afternoon, to track income and expenses such as rent, car payment and insurance.

Ceigan doesn't pay rent or have a car. He's only 9, and in the third grade at King Elementary School in Urbana. But he's learning to use Excel, a spreadsheet program often used for financial tasks, by making the checkbook.
