DANVILLE – Indianola resident Linda Rosnett wouldn't mind paying more in local property taxes if it meant that the deteriorating Fairmount-to-Sidell highway she often drives would be rebuilt.
But the Vermilion County Board turned down an offer Tuesday night to get the highway fixed. The state, which currently maintains the road, would give the county $4.5 million to rebuild it if the county then assumed ownership, which means the county would thereafter be responsible for its maintenance.
